When Radiohead sounds good

On Day 4 or 5 of intensely brutal warm weather here in the tropix --- yeah I'm losing brain functioning from intense wet warmth

You know what? I found perfect music to listen to during intermittent thundershowers, humidity, and overall greyness --- Radiohead's OK Computer --- hell, it sounds terrific in this kind of weather. Don't all you RH fans start jumping on me, this disc has grown on me with its sprawly experimental almost The Wall-ish kind of modern concepty vibe

Here's my gripe of the day -- I realize we live in the era of 24-7 media, and that feeding the monstrous appetite for NEW news is incredibly enormous. But lately, it's been bothering me --- I mean does anyone remember how the Sosa corked bat thing was covered by everyone from CNN to ESPN to your local news to death --- and after it was found out he told the truth that that was his only corked bat, it all went away

I'm asking for patience, this grimoire, macabre, rubber necker style of media doesn't serve anyone. I feel for those involved in the Dennehy murder, I feel for those involved with the Kobe 8 sex assault --- it's just hurry up and wait. I mean both these things have been trampled to death and neither is anywhere near a relevant trial date, and we have dragged everyone victims, victims families, alleged perpetrators, players wives, etc through the mud and back and rewetted the mud and dragged them through again --- can we not wait until there is a STORY to tell

And speaking of stories to tell, how is it nowadays that something is determined to be of NATIONAL RELEVANCE for media coverage. I don't know when it was when "celebrity" became a prime criteria for why things are covered in the media. Not to sound callous, but sometimes I wonder how things which sound totally in "local news" like the Ramsey case or the Laci Peterson case become suddenly NATIONAL NEWS --- with experts asked to proceed and comment on assumptions about facts and issues which HAVE NOT been put to trial yet

It's all assumptions, and you know what they do to you and me. And there is a cottage industry of pundits primarily on talk radio that then take half-baked information and wreck the reputations of those involved. In the spirit of Greenberg and Golic, I hate to say it, but until these things are ready for prime time --- when there actually is something substantial to comment on --- the whole media and everyone else who is a tagalong for 15 minutes of face time should JUST SHUT UP -- no one is being informed, and no one is the better for this crap that gets cycled everyday 24/7

on a side note, it still surprises me how much of a strong reaction (of 'unnamed feelings' --- ha) a certain unnamed album provokes --- at this point, I'm totally over it and kind of on to the next thing so it makes me wonder while people wish to linger in that place
