I hate Baptists more than I hate Democrats --- the evil Fitch
I just got finished watching RUNAWAY JURY with antiS and eBay -- and barring my preoccupation with having to pee for the last 30 mins., probably shouldn't have bought that oversized drink -- this was a really well-paced thriller
Now, let me state up front that I am no Grisham fan, either in paper form or film form -- I find that his stories seem to be putting forth quite a barrage of unlove for his and my common profession -- I think that what I did like about this particular plot (not having read the book) is that it doesn't really run lawyers into the ground unfairly -- it takes a different, cool take on the justice system -- jury selection (or for you law school vets voir dire) and the jury process
I really liked the movie a great deal -- I think lately I've really grown to appreciate Gene Hackman in evil roles -- and no, I'm not Chris Reeves (SP joke :) -- John Cusack again is the effortless everyman -- and basically its a race to the end
The interesting thing is that although the premise may be thinner than today's bologna -- the pacing and storytelling is quite captivating, it sucks you in -- Dustin Hoffman had a great understated performance in this one as the good lawyer -- one of the things was that I wasn't really that moved about the shooting of the guy at the beginning -- but that really wasn't a problem
It was kind of weird because the ending was good, but it didn't feel like it fit that well -- in other words, the climax for me came quite a few minutes before in the bathroom faceoff (see it, you'll see what I mean) -- and the rest was really kind of details -- but overall it just doesn't detract from a great movie, a nicely paced suspense thriller where time just melts away and you live for the moment in the film --- this movie has a high degree of absorptive powers and verisimilitude --
Here at the Garden, we think it's about an A-, because I can't think of very much that I would like to change -- in many ways its a really solid film, highly recommended
i think what really captivated me about this movie was the premise of:
does this really happen in real life?
i think what Cusaks character said is true. Anything can be bought and in a lot of ways i believe that this happens in real life.
the other part that mezmerized me was the sheer amount of acting talent in this one movie. wow.
while it hasn't made me forget about kill bill... this movie will definitely be a conversation piece for an after movie snack if you have one.
the twists and turns left me glued to my seat.
