We have such an interesting political culture here in Honolulu -- in most places, no one blinks an eye about stink, negative political ads
In most places, there are signs and ads -- but not the look at me, I'm a monkey sign waving at peak traffic periods -- and the odd thing about it, it actually convinces people to vote for them -- ooh, they waved at me, KA-CHUNK ... oops sorry, fill in the Oval
I have the unique opportunity to vote on two of the more controversial elections this primary season -- the Senate race between Cal and Clarence, and the mayoral race between Mufi and Duke
My political inclinations are such that if you cannot offer me anything except some really cheap talk stink about someone, you probably aren't competent enough to sell me on why you can do the job --- telling me how someone else sucks DOES NOT EQUAL you don't
Much like waving at me, doesn't make me more inclined to vote for you ... you can tell the political apathy is thick when the news here is hot and heavy after a story about a beauty queen on ice -- you ran for a pageant so now let us tear you down? ... I don't get it
When I think about it, I'm like ok, so who does this benefit?
I can only see that it sells viewership to news programs and papers
This drug addicted person has made dubious choices in her life, but it is not our place to know about them
I don't know what public interest in information is served by running for many days, the story of the fallen beauty queen WHO EVERYONE HAS FORGOTTEN ABOUT ALREADY --- yeah, who???
It's ugly how her life is already in the mud and the media decides to kick her further down -- shameful and ugly
ok what the heck was up with that story on the beauty queen on ice?
what was the big deal? did they really have to make it a public display to ruin her life? what about those people they sought quotes from about her? did someone somehow give the advertiser authority over the courts in hawaii? they were convicting her before she even plead!
in my opinion, she was basically nobody. she wasnt in the public eye. it was no ones business if she wanted to do crack or ice. she didnt ask to be in the public spotlight but somehow, someone thought it deserved to be front page news.
DID ANYONE EVEN REMEMBER HER FROM THE PAGEANT???
sometimes i think the media is just mean spirited and will sensationalize just about anything to grab attention. its just sad.
