Well, in a move that was right, JK conceded about 45 minutes ago -- I think he did the right thing by not dragging it out and turning it into a farce like the Rs did last election
JK is a good man -- it was good that he ran -- in many ways, he was the best candidate that was standing after the rollercoaster that was Deano -- however, I think that it is really time for a good hard soul search by the Democratic party
I am assuming the EC system will continue to persist -- so you look at the map and go -- wow, the Solid South lives again, this time a R block -- how can you run a presidential campaign when 130 of the 270 are firmly lodged in the R column -- it's like being down 28-0 in the first quarter, yes there are 3 quarters to play -- but boy, it's hard to make that kind of deficit up
I never thought that in my lifetime I would see such a groundswell of the moral majority again -- I think that they were a novelty in the 80s -- a front led by Robertson and Falwell --
I think that now that Christianity has gone mainstream with New Hope type churches and mainstream-sounding music -- this group has grown by leaps and bounds -- it is also decidedly more political and activist, like the "Jesus Freak" proactive mentality suggests -- the JF label is embraced and cherished, it's no longer a derogatory term
There is a darkness that underlies such a movement -- it is a judgmental perspective that casts doubt on everything that is not in line with your personal beliefs -- I can understand why that is compelling to a lot of people -- I think people grow weary with living in a world of greys, and want some order and black and white, right and wrong, and let your mind turn off and go on auto pilot -- On the other hand, I am a weak minded fool that thinks that ultimately diversity is what makes this nation strong and great
But I don't believe you get far by wanting so hard to take away people's civil rights just because you think homosexuality is distasteful -- or wanting to take away people's right to privacy because you think abortion is distasteful -- or disrupting another nation's life because they are a different color than you, have a different religion, and because of this are somewhat more inclined to do evil things to good little people like you --
Well, I shouldn't say distasteful -- I should say GOD SAID it is -- as for me, I am still trying to locate where it is He said that -- perhaps He is on the phone with His research department going -- I SAID WHAT? WHEN DID I SAY THAT?
But I digress, I think that movements such as the Dean Internet campaign, MoveOn, Air America Radio -- all these things have shown that most of America is still progressive -- and by that I mean, LIBERAL -- it doesn't amount to much to say --- oh gee next time go and vote
What does it say when these people go -- gee, I don't think we should change leaders in the middle of a war -- gee, I think that Bush guy is someone who I can trust to win the war on terror -- gee, I think that Bush guy has a moral compass -- and so on
Well, it means that they are not concerned (THOUGH YOU WOULD THINK THEY SHOULD BE) about jobs, health care, the rich paying their fair share, cheaper prescription drugs, etc.
How do people vote AGAINST THEIR INTEREST -- I mean, four more years of the Corporations President is against their interest -- It is funny but I have always idealistically thought that the President was a traffic cop, making sure all the policies of the nation kept the nation on the right track and benefitted the people, the masses, the public at large -- to have a President who is clearly on the side of big business at the expense of the rest of us is unmistakably AGAINST OUR INTEREST
At the end of the day, the D party dropped the ball -- with all the things that would seem to point that America was ripe for a regime change, they were beaten -- and beaten because they are so GD out of touch with what the masses want nowadays
