(To paraphrase Pink Floyd) For I have become ... Patriotically Dumb
Ok, have you watched some of these crash TV style interview shows, primarily on FOX News -- although MSNBC and CNN is now copying the format
You know, get this controversial guest, and then have the host ask them "tough questions" -- or just lambast or insult them ala Shill O'Lielly --- like shushing down and yelling down someone is just SO intellectual and SO patriotic
Well, perhaps the most controversial ethnic studies/political theorist is coming to town next week -- he has gotten totally flamed in the press and media because he described some of the victims of 9/11 as similar to the technocrat who executed the (capital letters) holocaust
All I'm saying is -- does the media really give a shit -- or is this just crash TV to get ratings -- and in a very stupid USA! USA! USA! way
Having read the book in question, I have to say that the guy is trying to make some comparisons to Arendt's thesis on the banality of evil -- in other words, evil people don't live on the top of the mountain and cackle and plan revenge against a childhood foe -- it could be you or me, it could be what we do, we may not even think about how what we do might affect someone else -- it's just asking us to think about how things affect other things, how our nation affects things elsewhere in the globe,
And obviously think about what we do -- like hey, man I'm a patriot, I'm above questioning man, I couldn't possibly be evil -- no way LOL
That's the point -- it's not about the growingly "untouchable" events of 9/11 -- so this whole grill this guy on the coals and call him unpatriotic, evil, etc. -- is all just banging the drums of the war, asking us all to just comply, lulling into this complacency where we should never think anything except EVIL EVIL EVIL about 9/11
(ed. note: Sunday, read that the UH president is coming out against this guy too -- but like oh, it's free speech -- Yeah, but who are we protecting free speech for when we are all DUMB and we just close our minds to new ideas about seminal events in history)
