Can someone please inform our big house of lawmakers in the District that they are a legislative body? -- I find it somewhat bothersome that they have engaged in grandstanding and turning controversial issues into political farces
Two things, the steroids in baseball hearing where they are trying to "clean it up" and the questionable use of subpoena power to arbitrarily prevent the withdrawal of medical care in the Schiavo controversy
It is regrettable to see this kind of interference of a lawmaking body in what appears to be private interests
-- in the case of baseball, essentially going beyond their lawmaking authority to moving towards directing the baseball ownership and the players union on how and ultimately who should be disciplined or fired, arbitrarily and separate from the terms of their negotiated labor agreement. I am cognizant that baseball is a legally protected monopoly exempt from our nation's antitrust law, but the possession of the exemption does not render it to be arbitrarily subject to over-reaching oversight or commandeering
-- in the really sad Schiavo case, which has lingered on for 15 years, to prevent the verbally communicated wishes (that medical support be withheld) of the patient who has been reduced to a brain damaged/persistent vegetative state unsupportable without medical support and who has been essentially put into limbo due to legal battles over her continued "life"
I realize that both issues have support on both sides of the aisle -- both D and R -- I am wary of this seemingly uncautious, forward, intrusive approach taken by certain members of Congress to abuse its authority and powers to interfere and intrude into areas where it really has no legitimate purpose or say in
