My SUV needs love (rhyme pays)

In another magnificent bow to patrons and oil industry supporters, the Bush administration is again trying to allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR)

I just think about this issue in a very common sense way -- note, the term national in the name -- that means it's the common heritage of all citizens of this country -- in its current state, it is one of the last truly remarkable places in our national environment -- it really should not be exploited for the benefit of private interests

And I really find it mind boggling that rather than pursue a programmatic course or agenda that will promote genuine energy independence and sustainability for our nation -- our current national leadership wishes to just drill another hole in the ground, rather than look at a comprehensive approach of energy conservation, alternative sources of renewable energy, and get away from sources that make us dependent on external factors and external powers that be

Post Script

Well, the bill passed 51-49, close but no cigar -- it almost makes you think about exactly how much of a majority really is compelling enough to make certain actions become effective as government policy and law
