Sat Afternoon Baseball

Well, Yankees off to their worst start since 91 -- and Lord knows how bad that team was

Inside are impressions on NYY at BAL (11/162)

---

Came into the game late this morning, had to go to the doctor

12:25PM HST

TOP 5: Runners on 1st and 2nd (back to back walks), ARod up, no one down -- Yanks. 2-1 -- Poor flip by Roberts on a routine DP ball, Tejada forces the runner at 2nd, ARod safe on Tejada's high throw -- now runners 1st and 3rd, Sheff sends a hot liner to center, Matos catches the SF -- Yanks, 3-1

BOT 5: Leadoff single for Sosa after Muss fell behind 3-1 -- Gets Palmeiro to hit into a 463 DP -- then strikes out a batter to end the inning

12:40PM HST

TOP 6: Sierra first pitch swinging, weakly grounds to Roberts -- Giambi down looking SO -- Pos gets a BB -- Bernie grounds out to end the inning

BOT 6: Muss retires two, Gibbons singles -- Torre brings in Stanton to face Roberts, loses him to a BB -- Two down, Tanyon in to get Mora -- Mora singles up the middle, Gibbons scores, Yanks now, 3-2 -- Sturze gets Tejada to end the inning

1:05PM HST

TOP 7: Womack goes down looking -- Jeter hits a double to the gap -- ARod hits a ground rule double over Surhoff's head, Jeter scores -- Yanks, 4-2 -- Kline in for Lopez

Sheff gets intentionally walked by Kline -- WP to Matsui, runners move up to 2nd and 3rd -- Matsui grounds to Roberts, double clutches before throwing, the throw is late -- ARod scores on great hustle, 5-2

Sierra grounds a DP ball to Tejada -- Tejada tosses it over Roberts, everyone is safe -- one more run in, Yanks 6-2 -- next two batters SO

1:25PM HST

BOT 7: Sosa leads off with a double off the rightfield scoreboard -- Palmeiro flies out to center -- Javy hits a sinking liner, Sosa scores, Yanks 6-3

Surhoff lines out to Matsui -- Matos bloops it over Tino for a single -- Gibbons doubles down the left field line, one run scores, Yanks 6-4

Sturtze gets the hook, Flash in -- Roberts smashes one over right field for a three run homer -- Flash is having a bad start to 05, Os 7-6

Os get FIVE runs, the bullpen gives it back

1:43PM HST

TOP 8: Kline loses Bernie, after a quality AB, BB -- Womack bunts, Mora in perfect position, guns down the lead runner -- Mazzili takes out Kline

One down, Womack at first -- Todd Williams in for the Os -- Williams gets out in front 0-2 on Jeter -- now, full count -- loses Jeter BB, now runners at 1st and 2nd -- Yanks send the runners, stay out of the DP, ARod grounds out, two down

Sheff, two times in a row, IBB -- loads em up for Gajira -- BJ Ryan in for the Os, lefty v lefty --

First pitch -- Ryan smokes one by, big swing and a miss
Second pitch -- Smokes another one by, another big swing
Three balls to a full count -- Gets Matsui swinging on the heat to end the inning

I know it wasn't favorable for the Yanks, but you gotta like that

2:05PM HST

BOT 8: Flash gets the Os to go fairly quietly, only BB to Palmeiro

2:15PM HST

TOP 9: Ryan Ks Sierra -- Sanchez pinch hits and singles -- K's Posada -- two down, runners at 1st and 2nd

Flaherty comes in as a PH -- bloops one to short center, but Roberts is there for the out

Final: Os 7-6

Os have now won 4 of 5 against NYY -- and that Brian Roberts is a great player
