Gee, I guess our second season started today -- what I mean is that we seem to only have spring and summer here in paradiso -- hot, very hot
Inside, thoughts on Bombers-Os (NYY 5/162)
Some observations from today's NYY game:
"Runs are tough to come by against a guy like Randy Johnson" - Thanks for the curse/bachi today, Ken
2nd: there seems to be a lot of quirky things happening when the interlocking are in the field -- their C infield singles on a dribbler to ARod, Giambi can't bend to start an inning ending 363 -- but Matsui stabbed one in left to end the inning, instead the Os take the lead, 1-0
The contrast between Chen and the Big Unit is really pronounced -- one guy is totally control and changing speeds -- BU has been throwing a ton of sliders the past two games, haven't really seen him reach back for one just yet this season
This 2B Roberts for the Os is really something -- quite the pissant leadoff man, playing great so far last night and today
Geez, Tejada has made two yoga plastic man plays deep in the hole at short -- man! -- I never really thought of this guy as one of the premier defensive SSs in the AL
Bot 3: ARod off the schnide ... singles in Sanchez, tied 1 up-- seems like the Yanks have started to figure Chen out (actually at this point, Chen has more Ks than RJ -- imagine that) -- on out 2, looked like the second strike em/throw em by the Os, oh well, luck is with the NYY -- oh well, balances out, Matsui got a sinking liner robbed
Well Top 4, not looking great for RJ, Javy lead off with a double, Surhoff follows with a first pitch slap hit, then he beans Matos on the ankle -- loaded with 0 outs, yikes -- he walked in a run, Os 2-1 -- mound visit Stottlemyre -- next batter Gil singles, Os 3-1 -- bases loaded, no outs -- 2Ks in a row -- aw crap!, Tejada first pitch swinging just knocked in two, Os 5-1 -- damn
Just when I was about to say Chen looks like he's cruising along, Giambi hits a solo shot for his 1st of the year -- Os 5-2
On the play that made the game 5-3, ARod broke up the DP by crashing into Roberts -- and Roberts got charged with a error -- that's a tough E to charge
Top 6: WTF, just as the Yanks get closer, little squib hit again to third (2x today... weird), WP by RJ that the runner took two bags -- runner on third, no outs -- pssh. Big bailout, Os call the bunt squeeze, but the batter whiffed on the bunt, runner on third caught in a rundown -- end of 5 1/2, still Os 5-3
Bot 7: Creeping back in a little more, Sheffield singles in one, Os 5-4 -- and you gotta love the ghosts at The Stadium, Matsui bloops one and it falls in for a ground rule double bouncing into the left field stands, tied at 5
Oh wow, Sierra just bombed a first pitch out of the park over near the retired numbers in left center, NYY 8-5, what a comeback -- RJ now off the hook, Sturze going for the win now -- bit of a tough break for Chen for the Os, pitched a good game
Amazing stat that everyone in the lineup got a hit today -- good all around performance by the Yanks
Nothing really remarkable happened the rest of the way -- 42 got his first save of the season, but it wasn't really dominating -- it was workman-like
