I had some work to catch up on today so I decided to roll Janitor's 100 as background music
I suppose, it should come to no big surprise that we have similar musical taste, as we are from the same era -- I have compiled some thoughts on some of the uncommon tracks he had, and on some of the unique artists he pulled for his list
Not to sound like the mutual admiration society, but it's a great 100 songs -- and a nice changeup from listening to new music for the past two weeks

Big Mistake - Peter Cetera
Well, I am pretty much sure Chicago was not going to record a song like this during this era, of that I'm pretty sure -- this one is a pretty catchy, upbeat song that pushes Cetera ahead of his ballady past with Chi
When You're on Top - The Wallflowers
It's funny to me that this kind of song by the Wallflowers doesn't grab attention -- it's one of those deep album cuts that has a goodness about it -- certainly not very far in strain from Shawn Mullins Rockabye, nice middle section to this one
Hitomi Wa Angel - Mari Iijima
This one is a gem. The first time I heard it I was like wow, this is an awesome pop song
Traveling - Utada Hikaru
This one is a dynamic dance cut -- has a lot of smart producing going on, reminds of Jellybean Benitez styled production of 80s Madonna for the club
Automatic - Utada Hikaru
This one is so down the middle of the plate for an American mainstream audience -- a real good groove, good hook, and interesting vocal style. I guess I can see how it could get lost, when a lot of the focus in the mainstream US R&B scene is chop socky rap infused stuff
Badman's Song - Tears for Fears
The tone of this song is interesting -- it sounds all over gospel revival in the intro -- it then switches into a bluesy stomp -- it's very musically interesting the tones and times switch back and forth and the sound dynamic varies in cool ways
Freedom 90 - George Michael
The postscript to the original Wham hit -- Michaels advances the idea in a more mature, retrospective and smart way -- great groove to this song
Miss Sun - Boz Scaggs
Wow, haven't heard this one in a long WHILE ... it is great, captures all that goodness of his sound ... very 1980 feel to this one, but in a really great way
Konya wa Hurricane from Bubblegum Crisis
What's there not to like about uptempo Jpnse theme type music -- always great for setting tone, the Jpnse are masters at this
More to come ...
