BOT 1: Mussina going for NY -- Figgins draws a walk on the full count payoff -- Figgins goes on the first pitch to Erstad, Posada has trouble gripping ... an easy steal of second -- Runner at second for Erstad, he grounds back to the mound, one down, runner to third on the play -- Guerrero grounds to third, the run scores -- the Angels lead, 1-0

Anderson goes the opposite way for a two out bloop single to left -- Finley pops to second to end the rally

TOP 2: ARod draws a leadoff walk on the full count payoff -- Matsui flies to the track in right center, one down -- Giambi pops foul to the catcher, two away -- Posada grounds up the middle to second, the force is made at second to retire the side

BOT 2: Izturis grounds a leadoff single up the middle -- Juan Rivera grounds to short into a 643 double play, two gone -- an eventful AB for Jose Molina, he throws his bat over third into shallow left, and now fouls one off Posada ... trainers and Torre out, he will stay in -- Jose Molina flies to deep left center to end the inning

TOP 4: Cano rips one over the head of Rivera and off the wall in right, a leadoff double -- Sheffield grounds slowly to first, he is tagged out by Erstad running down the line, one away -- full count to ARod, the payoff ... he flies to right, Cano tags ... the throw is on the money, the tag is applied, Cano is gone at the plate to retire the side

BOT 4: Finley hits the 2-1, long, far ... but FOUL ... he grounds to first, the pitcher covering, one down -- Izturis hits a hot shot up the middle, great diving stop by Jeter, who gets up and guns ... he gets him, two away -- Juan Rivera down swinging on a checkswing to end the inning

BOT 7: Crosby in a CF -- DaVanon PH for Jose Molina, he flies to right center, one away -- Sturtze warms for NY -- Kennedy bloops a single to center -- that will be all for Mussina, a solid outing after some early shakiness that the Halos never really capitalized on

Sturtze now pitching for Yankees -- Figgins bloops a single to left, his third hit of the day ... runners now first and second -- the runners go, Erstad grounds to third, right on the bag ... ARod gloves, steps on third and guns to first to convert a 553 clutch double play to end the inning

TOP 8: Washburn continues for LAA, Paul in at C -- full count to Jeter, he battles but goes down swinging, one down -- Cano flies the opposite way to left, two away -- Sheffield bloops a two out single to center

Washburn's outing is over, a really excellent start except for the game changing hiccup in the 7th -- Peralta will pitch for Halos -- full count to ARod, the payoff ... high and inside, he draws a two out walk -- full count to Matsui, he pops foul to third to retire the side

Yankees awaken the bats just in time to salvage one from the Angels.
This series showed the glaring needs of the Yankees for solid starting pitching and middle relief help ... that might have been the difference in losing this series and splitting it (and if you look back to the TEX series, may have cost a sweep)

52UP 45DOWN ... back in the win column and heading back home after a decent 6-5 roadtrip that looked ridiculous on paper
