WC Road Swing, Game 6

Well, today is the last game of the West Coast road swing for the Yankees, it has really been a successful road swing as a whole.

The Yankees will travel back to NY, and startup an interleague, intracity series at the Mets this weekend, but that's getting ahead of myself

TOP 1: Moyer gets the start for the M's today -- Jeter lines a leadoff single to left -- Womack slaps a single through the right side and into right field, runner to second on the play -- runners at first and second for Sheffield, he flies to shallow center, great sliding catch by Ibanez, his throw into second almost doubles off Jeter, one down

Runners at first and second, one down for Matsui, he bloops an opposite field single to left, one run scores, the Yankees lead 1-0

Still runners at first and second for ARod, he hits a line blast to right, three run shot, the NY lead is now 4-0

One down for Posada, he grounds to third, two away -- Giambi hits a slow roller to third to retire the side

BOT 1: Mussina going for the Yankees today -- Ichiro flies to left center, one down -- Winn lines a single to right -- Ibanez bombs a double to the base of the wall in center, one run scores -- the Yankees lead is cut to 4-1

One down, runner at second for Sexson, he waves at a low breaking ball, two away -- Boone rips a single up the middle, another run scores, the score is now 4-2

Runner at first, two down for Reed, quality AB for Reed, battling, but eventually he flies to right to end the rally

TOP 2: Bernie pops out to short, one down -- Cano lines a single to right, and he has hit now in 7 consecutive games -- Runner at first, one down for Jeter, he hits an atom ball at third, gloved by Dobbs, two down -- Runner at first, two away for Womack, he goes down looking at the FC payoff pitch to retire the side

BOT 2: Dobbs goes down swinging, one down -- Olivo pops up to second, two away -- Valdez hits a line drive down the first base line into the right field corner, a two-out double to deep right

Runner at second, two down for Ichiro, he flies to center to end the inning

TOP 3: Sheffield waves through a changeup, one down -- Matsui hits an opposite field flare to left, Ibanez approaches and it falls in front of him for a hit ... and rolls away, a double -- ARod gets an intentional pass

Runners at first and second, one away for Posada -- Moyer lets loose a WP on 1-2 to Posada, the runners advance to scoring position -- Posada grounds to third, the runners hold, two away

Runners now second and third, two out for Giambi, he lines it to right, Ichiro comes in ... off his glove on the attempted shoestring catch, couldn't squeeze it, that's a single, two runs will score, the Yankees extend to 6-2

Runner at first for Bernie with two down, he hits a high fly to left to retire the side and end the rally

BOT 3: Winn waves at a ball down low, one away -- Ibanez fouls out to third, near the stands, two away -- Sexson goes down looking to end the inning

TOP 4: Cano pops out to third, one away -- Jeter grounds the first offering from Moyer up the middle for a single to center ... he steals second on the 2-2 pitch to Womack -- full count Womack, he draws a walk, runners now first and second

Runners first and second, two down for Sheffield, he grounds to third into an inning ending, around the horn, 543 DP to retire the side

BOT 4: Boone goes down on a checkswing, one down -- Reed taps one in front of the catcher, Posada fields and throws Reed out at first, two away -- Dobbs goes down swinging to end the inning

Muss sets the M's down in order for the 2nd consecutive inning

TOP 5: Matsui grounds to second, one down -- ARod grounds the first pitch to him to second, two away -- Posada draws a walk -- runner at first, two down for Giambi, he fouls the 0-1 out to third to retire the side

BOT 5: Olivo grounds to short, one down -- Valdez grounds to second, two down
-- Ichiro hits an opposite field liner to left, just over the jumping Jeter for a two out single -- Muss falls behind Winn 3-0, then works it back full, the payoff ... Winn grounds a single the opposite way through the right side and into left, the runner advances to third on the play

Two down, runners at the corner for Ibanez, he hits a bomb to the gap in left center, Womack reaches ... can't glove it, it falls in at the base of the wall, a clutch two out double, two runs score -- the NY lead is cut to 6-4

Stottlemyre visits the mound -- Groom and Sturtze warming for Yankees -- runner at second now, still two down for Sexson, Muss over 100 pitches, works a full count to Sexson, Sexson flies the payoff out to right center to end the rally

Three hits after getting a very quiet two outs, the two out hit has killed the Yankees all season ... this time letting the M's back in the game

TOP 6: Hasegawa now in to pitch for the M's -- full count to Bernie, he grounds the payoff to first, one down -- Cano draws a walk -- Jeter hits a comebacker to Hasegawa, the force play is made at second, the throw is not in time to get Jeter, two away

Two down, runner at first for Womack, he slaps a single through the hole at short, the lead runner goes to second on the play

Sheffield hits a routine grounder to short, right off the glove of Valdez, that's an error and now the bases are loaded

Bases loaded, two down for Matsui, Hasegawa falls behind 3-0 to Matsui, but works it back to full ... the payoff pitch .. SWING AND A MISS! ... Matsui goes down swinging, and an opportunity to break the game back open goes by the boards

BOT 6: Mussina's night is over, Sturtze now pitching for Yankees -- Boone flies the first pitch from Sturtze to right center, one away -- Reed draws a walk -- runner at first, one down for Dobbs, he pops out to short in shallow left, two down

Two down, runner at first for Olivo, he goes down uno dos adios swinging at a pitch in the dirt ... Posada reaches down and can't field it, runners now first and second

Another touch of two-out madness ... that should have been the third out, shirt

Two down, runners at first and second, Valdez singled to right, one run scores ... on the play to third, the runner is hit in the back by Sheffield's relay, the ball bounces into the dugout, another run scores, and the runner at second is given third on the overthrow -- the game is tied, 6-6

And the Yankees have fully melted down defensively here, and the freak bean play ... dang

Runner at third, two down for Ichiro, he flies to left to end the rally

TOP 7: ARod down looking, one away -- Posada flies to right after being greenlighted on 3-0, two away -- Giambi grounds to second to retire the side

Seventh Inning Stretch, Yankees and Mariners tied, 6-6

BOT 7: Full count to Winn, quality AB, but he flies to left, one down -- another full count, quality AB by Ibanez, but he goes down looking, two away -- Sexson hits a hard liner to center, it starts to tail away from Matsui, he recovers and makes the catch to retire the side, what a play!

TOP 8: Nelson in to pitch for M's -- full count to Bernie, he draws a walk -- Cano hits a broken bat grounder to second, a 463 double play -- Two down for Jeter, full count, he waves at a slider to retire the side

And if you can read body language, the Yankees look beat even though the game is only tied

BOT 8: Gordon in for Yankees -- Boone hits an easy comebacker to Gordon, he puts Boone away at first, one down -- Reed slaps one down the left field line, it gets past Womack in left ... Reed hustling to stretch the double to three, bang bang play at the bag ... he's called safe (that was a very close 50/50 call, after looking at the replays)

Runner at third, one down for Dobbs, he pops out to third, two down -- Olivo lines a TWO-OUT single to center, one run scores -- the M's grab the lead, 7-6

I don't know, call me stupit but this give up the two out hit crap has killed the Yankees today, and all season long

Runner now at first, two down for Valdez -- Olivo is gunned down trying to steal second

TOP 9: Nelson still in for M's -- Womack hits the 2-1 ... long and far ... and FOUL! ... he chops to second, one away -- Sheffield draws a walk -- Hargrove brings in Villone to face Matsui

Runner at first, one down for Matsui, he singles to center, runners now first and second -- ARod grounds to deep short, Valdez tries to make a play at third for the force, and he does ... another 50/50 play, two down

Two away, runners at first and second for Posada, he hits a slow rolling grounder to third, Dobbs charges, it bounces off his glove ... the bases are now loaded for Giambi

Jeebus Giambi, swing the damn bat!!! ... he goes down looking, uno dos adios to end the game ... and the Yankees finally lose


FINAL: Mariners win, 7-6

The Yankees choked one up today. This is another one that got away, reminds me of the 8-6 loss to the Jays

The M's snap the Yankee win streak at 10 -- The Yankees still take two of three from the M's, and their fourth series victory in a row
