Due to the delayed broadcast, since I live out west ... way the heck west, I am getting to the second game of the Mets-Yankees series at Shea VERY MUCH after the fact

TOP 1: Benson goes for the Mets -- Jeter grounds to first, one down -- Womack grounds to second, two away -- Bernie jacks the first pitch to right ... going, going, going ... FOUL ... full count, he pops the payoff out to center to retire the side
BOT 1: Unit going for the Yankees -- Reyes hits a comebacker, it hits off the leg of Johnson, Cano fields, an infield single -- Cairo grounds to second, force play is made at second, throw to first ... not in time, one down
On the 1-1 pitch to Beltran, Cairo is gunned out trying to steal, a nice cross the body tag applied by Cano, two away -- Beltran lines a two-out single to left
Runner at first, two down for Piazza, he grounds the first pitch up the middle into center for a single, runner to third on the play
Runners at the corners, two down for Cameron, he goes down swinging (RJ 1) to end the inning
TOP 2: Hideki Matsui grounds a single through the right side into right -- ARod grounds the 2-2 back to the pitcher, he turns to short to start the 163 double play, two down, great stop by Benson on the low ground shot -- full count to Tino, he flies the payoff to center to retire the side
BOT 2: Wright goes down swinging (RJ 2), one down -- Woodward hits a comebacker up the middle, Cano charges and puts him out, two down -- Kaz Matsui lines a two out single to left
Benson loops the first pitch to center for another two out single, runner to third on the play -- Runners at the corners, two down for Reyes, he grounds a single past short and up the middle, one run scores, Mets lead 1-0
Runners first and second, two down for Cairo, he pops foul just to the right of the first base bag to end the inning
What can I say, the two out rally ... the death of the Yankees so far this year
TOP 3: Posada flies out to center, one away -- Cano grounds to first, two down
Randy Johnson is frozen ... down looking to retire the side
BOT 3: Beltran lines a broken bat single to right -- Piazza grounds to second, the force play is made at second, one down -- Cameron hits a comebacker to Johnson, he knocks it down with his glove, and makes the throw to first, runner to second on the play, two down
Wright bombs a two out doubled off the wall in right center, one run scores -- the Mets now lead 2-0
Woodward hits a big chopper over the mound, Cano charges but there is no chance at first, runner to third on the play, another 2-out single
Runners at the corners for Kaz Matsui, he grounds to short, the force play is made at second to end the inning
Another two out rally ... pssshhh
TOP 4: Jeter grounds to short, one gone -- Womack goes down swinging, two gone -- Bernie grounds it back to the pitcher, who puts him out to retire the side
BOT 4: Benson is down looking (RJ 3), one down -- Reyes grounds the first pitch to short, two away -- Cairo pops out foul out to first to retire the side
TOP 5: Hideki Matsui goes down swinging, one down -- ARod draws a walk -- Tino lines to left, two down
Runner at first, two out for Posada, he works a full count, the payoff ... he lines a double down the first base line, the lead runner to third on the play
Runners now second and third, two down for Cano, he will get the intentional pass as the pitcher is on deck, bases now loaded
Randy Johnson works the count full, then flies the payoff to center to retire the side, and the Yankees leave them full ... shirt
BOT 5: Beltran grounds the first pitch to third, one pitch, one out -- Piazza lines a single to left -- Cameron grounds to short into an inning ending 643 double play
TOP 6: Lots of defensive changes for the Mets: Cairo at 2B, Floyd in LF, Cameron in CF, Woodward in RF, and Mientkiewicz at 1B
Benson gets ahead 0-2 on Jeter, Jeter works it back to full, the payoff ... plunks Jeter on the left elbow -- Trainer is out to tend to Jeter
Runner at first, Womack grounds to short, the force play is made at second, one down -- Bernie gets ahead 3-0, Benson gets it back to full, the payoff ... Bernie draws a walk, runners now first and second -- Hideki Matsui lines out to , he throws to the SS covering second, the runner is doubled off at second to retire the side .... hard luck, shirt
BOT 6: Sanchez in at SS for Jeter -- Wright goes down swinging (RJ 4), one away -- Woodward grounds to third, two gone -- Mientkiewicz grounds to first to end the inning
TOP 7: ARod grounds a single to left -- Randolph in to get Benson, great start for Benson today
Koo now pitching for Mets -- On the 2-1 in the dirt, ARod gets caught up between first and second, and is picked off at first, one down ... nice brainfart
Tino goes down swinging, chasing one down and away, two gone -- Posada also goes down swinging to retire the side
Seventh Inning Stench, Mets lead 2-0
BOT 7: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?! Koo doubles to deep center off Randy Johnson -- Reyes sacbunts, fielded by Posada, who puts him out at first, Koo to third on the play ... Koo sees the plate uncovered, he goes to home ... and SCORES ... what a play!, Mets now 3-0 ... on the replay, it looks like Koo didn't touch the plate, and Posada tagged him out
CAIRO HOMERS ... a solo shot to left center ... now I have seen it all today, and everything is going the Mets way today, the lead is upped to 4-0
With the 0-1, the Unit blasts some chin music by Floyd... he glares back at Johnson ... he goes down swinging (RJ 5), two down
Groom and Quantrill warming for the Yankees ... and that will be all for Johnson ... he wasn't a mystery to anyone today, giving up TWELVE hits ... and no doubt the questions will be back again about how much he has left
Quantrill pitching for the Yankees -- Piazza goes down swinging to end the rally
TOP 8: Cano is frozen, down looking, one gone -- Randolph will pull Koo to a big ovation -- Hernandez in to pitch for Mets, Sierra in to PH for Quantrill -- Sierra pops out to short, two down -- Sanchez flies to center to retire the side
BOT 8: Groom now pitching for the Yankees -- Cameron grounds a single up the middle and into center -- Wright blasts a doubles to the leftfield wall, one run scores, Mets now lead 5-0
Runner at second, Woodward grounds to short, runner to third on the play, one down -- Mientkiewicz grounds to second, two away
Looper warming for Mets -- Valent to PH for the pitcher, he falls behind 1-2, but patiently works a walk, runners now at the corners with two down
Reyes blasts one to the base of the wall in right center, two runs score ... Reyes slides in with a triple ... and the two-out rally bites the Yankees again, if it didn't seem like it before, it is now out of reach, Mets now lead 7-0
Runner on third, two down for Cairo, he goes down looking to end the rally
TOP 9: Mets closer Looper in despite the large lead -- Womack grounds to short, great diving stab by Reyes in deep short, he gets up and guns to first HIGH, it pulls the first baseman off the bag, an infield single for Womack ... and a seriously great effort by Reyes
Bernie grounds to first, runner to second on the play, one away -- Hideki Matsui goes down looking, two down -- ARod bloops a single to center, one run scores, the shutout is gone, the Mets lead 7-1
Tino draws a walk, runners now first and second -- Posada grounds to second, the flip to the SS covering, the force is made at second to end the game
FINAL: Mets win, 7-1
It was the Mets day today, great pitching from Benson and the bullpen shut the Yankees down ... there really is nothing more to say than that, tomorrow the rubber game with Pedro and Pavano
